Frequently Asked Questions

We have put together some Frequently Asked Questions - and Answers, for our customers who wish to browse through our site to learn more about products.

What are parabens?

Parabens are a type of preservative used in products to extend their shelf life. Research has indicated that parabens have been linked to some health concerns. All That Yazz products contain no parabens. We create our products in small and frequent batches to keep up with demand. In case we are out of something, it is only because we refuse to use preservatives!

What is the shelf life of your soaps?

We suggest that our customers use their soaps within 8 months of purchase. Since we do not use parabens or other preservatives, these soaps are intended to be used within a reasonable amount of time. 8 months is plenty of time in which to take a shower.

Will soap grow mold?

Soaps do not grow mold unless they have been unused for many years, and also confined in a humid and dark environment. It should be pointed out that soaps usually live in dishes on a vanity, or on a shower rack, where there is air circulation, and therefore cannot grow mold.  If soap is being used regularly, there simply would not be time for mold to grow on it!

Do you use fragrance oils or essential oils?

We use essential oils for some products and fragrance oils for others. eg our lavender is pure essential oil, as is our eucalyptus and geranium, amongst others. The reason we also use fragrance oil in some of our soaps, is because believe or not, there is a significant population of consumers who are allergic to essential oils, and cannot tolerate them. In addition, certain essential oils can trigger reactions, and for this reason, these consumers are able to tolerate fragrance oils instead. Since our fragrance oils are phthalate free, this is a suitable alternative.

What are phthalates?

Phthalates (pronounced as tha-lates) are "plasticizers". They have a variety of applications and can be put into foods, and also into fragrances. When used in the latter, they can make a little scent go a long way, so companies can minimize their cost. However, phthalates are also linked to health concerns. All That Yazz products contain no pthalates.

Are your soaps made with lye?

Yes.  Soaps can be made using either lye (sodium hydroxide, also known as wood ash) or using glycerin (known as melt and pour). Our soaps are made purely with lye, through a method called cold process. We carefully mix lye with oils to create a gentle product to help you wash your skin.

Which oils go into your soap?

We use a combination of coconut oil, sunflower seed oil and corn oil.

How are coconut oil and palm oil different?

Coconut oil comes from the coconut tree (cocos nucifera), and can be sourced without killing the plant. Palm oil comes from the oil palm tree (elaeis guineensis), which is a different plant, and requires the tree to be killed.
